Anja Guckenberger

As Head of Business Development, Anja Guckenberger is in charge of the strategic development of German and international communications programs for clients from diverse industries facing diverse challenges. With a blend of innovation and pragmatism, plus a large portion of optimism, she helps guide teams through ultra-complex tasks while always keeping an eye on the target audience.

Anja Guckenberger has headed Business Development since 2015, a task which makes her responsible for new business development and concepts as well as the strategic supervision of clients.

Mention brand communication and Anja Guckenberger's heart skips a beat. She was Deputy Head of Brand Marketing at Edelman Germany for several years, during which time she worked with clients such as Unilever, Mondelēz International, Danone Waters, and Adidas. As Head of Strategy Germany, she also advised a variety of corporate brand and positioning projects, for instance for C&A and Zalando/Zlabels. International communications is one of Anja Guckenberger's strong suits. From 2002 to 2008, she was the global PR lead for the Dove brand and a member of the global Unilevel/Dove team responsible for the development of PR programs, tool kits, and assets, as well as launch management for the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty across 40 countries. She won the 2011 European Excellence Award for the pan-European Toppits campaign "Save Food" and the 2008 Sabre Award for the German Dove "Pro-Age" campaign.

Anja Guckenberger holds an M.A. in communication, political science, and psychology from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Following her studies she became a consultant at the Hamburg agency MMK (Chime Group), working for clients such as Philip Morris, The Gap, Absolut Vodka, Schwan Stabilo, and ELLE magazine. On joining Edelman in 1998, she specialized in beauty, fashion, and lifestyle (Procter & Gamble Fine Fragrances/Hugo Boss, Laura Biagiottti, Herve Leger Perfume). She developed and directed international communications programs for the clients Camel Active/Worldwide Brands Inc. and ECCO shoes (eight to 18 countries in Europe and Asia). Anja Guckenberger spent six months at Edelman headquarters in New York, where she worked for BMW and Samsung.

Thanks to her 11-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter, she experiences Generation Z every day, first hand. In addition to being a sports enthusiast (kickboxing, power yoga, body attack or SH'BAM), she is a certified expert in crafting homemade St. Martin's Day lanterns (a November "must-have" for kids in Germany).
